Advancing the Texas Children in Nature Strategic Plan

On December 3rd and 4th, over 350 Texans gathered at the University of Texas at Austin to learn about the Texas Children in Nature Strategic Plan, to be inspired by model initiatives from across the state, and to commit to make this strategic plan a reality.

The broad support for this plan and strong desire to work together to implement it was made clear by the high level of engagement and commitment demonstrated at our conference. Consider the following amazing conference outcomes:

  • More than 350 attended our conference. An attendee list is attached to make it easy to stay in touch with others and coordinate activities in your region.
  • 123 participants signed up for action teams to work to implement the plan in the areas of access, community, education, and health
  • Action steps were identified in workshops for sixteen goals
  • Leaders from 23 different organizations spoke in our plenary sessions to express support for the strategic plan and introduce model programs
  • Leaders from seven different Texas regions pledged follow up meetings in their regions to plan regional activities.

As we look ahead, we ask that you take three steps to help us keep up the momentum:

  1. Please take a few minutes to evaluate the conference with this online survey.
  2. If you were not able to sign up to serve on an action team that will work to implement the strategic plan, please use this form to indicate that you would like to serve on the Access, Community, Education, Health, Marketing, or Natural Leaders action teams.
  3. Please bookmark this site. Over the next few weeks this website will shift from our ‘conference website’ to an electronic gathering place for coordinating our work on the Texas Children in Nature Strategic Plan. We will be adding photos and videos from the conference and other information.
